When the Three Lions walk out after halftime at Wembley on Tuesday evening fans will notice a change to the players’ kits.
The names will disappear from the back of their new away strip as part of a match dedicated to the Alzheimer’s Society.
England has an official charity partnership with the organization and they will be helping to raise awareness of dementia this week.
Having the players’ names disappear from the shirts will help to draw attention to how people with dementia lose precious memories.
Part of the Three Lions’ announcement statement reads: “With memory loss the most commonly associated symptom of dementia, this year’s dedicated international aims to increase awareness of dementia symptoms and encourage fans to seek a diagnosis if they spot any tell-tale signs in themselves or loved ones.”
This will be the second time England have worn nameless kits following the first dedicated international match in 2022 against Switzerland.
After the game against Belgium, the shirts will then be auctioned to raise crucial funds to support the research into early diagnosis.
Alzheimer’s Society CEO Kate Lee said: “We hope this striking gesture with the players’ shirts will once again get fans across the country talking, and thinking about the signs and symptoms of dementia.
“By using football to shine a spotlight and increase awareness of dementia symptoms, we hope to not only encourage fans to donate towards our early diagnosis research, but also to support their loved ones just as much as they support their football team.”
