GFA Presents Buses to Nine Division One League Clubs to Boost Football Development

In a landmark initiative to enhance football development in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has presented buses to nine Division One League clubs.

The ceremony, held in fulfillment of a promise made by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku during the 29th Ordinary Congress in Kumasi in 2023, marked a significant step in supporting lower-division football.

The buses were awarded to the top three teams from each zone of the Division One League following the conclusion of the last season. This initiative is part of the GFA’s capacity-building strategy to improve operational efficiency and motivate clubs to achieve excellence.

The recipients of the buses from Zone 1 were Young Apostles FC (Now in the Premier League), Techiman Heroes FC and Victory Club Warriors.

In Zone 2, Basake Holy Stars  (Now in the Premier League), New Edubiase FC and Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs received the buses.

Zone 3 saw Vision FC – 1st place (Now in the Premier League), Okwawu United and Hohoe United handed their buses.

The buses are expected to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by the clubs, providing a logistical boost to enhance their performance and reduce operational costs.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku emphasized the association’s commitment to advancing football in the country.

He noted that the Bus Acquisition Strategy aligns with the broader goal of “fixing the fundamentals” of Ghana football, addressing a critical need for efficient and comfortable transportation for the clubs.

“This initiative is part of our broader strategy to empower clubs and ensure sustainable development of the game,” said Simeon-Okraku.

The move has been met with widespread praise from football stakeholders, who have expressed optimism about its potential to elevate the Division One League. Many believe the initiative will encourage competitiveness among clubs while laying the foundation for a more robust football ecosystem in Ghana.

As the clubs gear up for the new season, the provision of these buses serves as a reminder of the GFA’s commitment to fostering growth at all levels of Ghanaian football.
