The General Manager of Dreams FC and Team Manager of Ghana’s senior men’s national team, Black Stars, Mohammed Ameenu Shardow, has identified the biggest obstacle facing Ghana football today: mindset.
Speaking passionately with The BAC Sports Channel about the state of the sport, Shardow emphasized that many stakeholders, from club owners to players and administrators, are yet to fully grasp the evolving nature of modern football.
The biggest challenge is the mindset towards football, he said. We have to understand that football has changed. The world has moved on from football being mere recreation. It’s purely business and a source of livelihood.
According to Shardow, football is no longer just a pastime or a communal event sustained by tradition and passion. It has transformed into a global industry where success is driven by professionalism, strategic management, commercial investments, and brand development.
He warned that unless Ghanaian football stakeholders shift their mindset, the country risks being left behind as other nations adapt and grow. For Shardow, embracing football’s business side, from investing in infrastructure to prioritizing marketing, youth development, and financial planning, is crucial for sustainable progress.
His comments come at a time when the Ghana Premier League faces several hurdles, including attracting sponsorships, improving matchday experiences, and strengthening local clubs’ competitiveness internationally.
Football is now a livelihood, Shardow reiterated. Those who treat it seriously will thrive; those who don’t will struggle to survive.
