Ghana’s AFCON Qualification Hopes Rekindled After Sudan’s Heavy Loss to Niger

Ghana’s dreams of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have been reignited with a glimmer of hope following Sudan’s stunning 4-0 defeat to Niger.

With this result, Sudan missed a crucial chance to secure their place in the tournament, leaving the door open for Ghana to potentially advance.

Sudan had only needed a single point to guarantee progression from Group F but fell short, as Niger produced a dominant performance to keep their own qualification campaign alive.

However, at least a point for Coach James Kwesi Appiah’s side against Angola in their final game could secure a spot for them in Morocco.

The four-time AFCON champions now face a must-win scenario as they prepare to take on Angola, who have already qualified for the tournament.

The Black Stars will meet the Angolan side on Friday at 19:00 GMT in Luanda, with nothing less than a victory sufficient to keep their qualification hopes intact.

Ghana’s preparation for the high-stakes clash has been rigorous, with three training sessions held in Accra before the team traveled to Angola. Upon arrival in Luanda, the team scheduled a final training session at the Estadio 11 de Novembro on Thursday evening to make final tactical adjustments.

Sitting third in Group F with just two points from four games, Ghana’s path to the 2025 AFCON has been difficult. But Sudan’s loss has provided a last-minute lifeline for the Black Stars, who must now capitalize on the opportunity. A win in Luanda would significantly boost their chances of qualifying, setting the stage for a dramatic final push in their campaign.

The clash with Angola is not expected to be an easy one. The Angolan side, already qualified and unbeaten in the group, will likely aim to maintain their impressive form in front of their home crowd.

However, with Sudan’s setback, Ghana’s motivation will be high as they strive to secure a ticket to Morocco and uphold their legacy as one of Africa’s most decorated football nations.

With their AFCON hopes on the line, the Black Stars will be fighting for victory, inspired by the possibility of keeping Ghanaian hopes alive for the 2025 tournament.
