Kumasi Asante Kotoko made a strong return to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, handing new head coach Karim Zito a perfect start to his tenure.
The match’s decisive moment came through striker Kwame Poku, who struck the only goal of the game to secure all three points for the Porcupine Warriors. Poku’s fine finish takes his tally to seven goals in the Ghana Premier League this season.
The win has propelled Kotoko into 4th place on the league table with 50 points after 29 matches, keeping them firmly in the hunt for the title. They now sit just behind Bibiani Gold Stars (56 points), Nations FC (51 points), and Accra Lions (50 points), though Gold Stars have played one more match than their closest rivals.
Despite the defeat, Aduana Stars maintain their position in 11th place with 38 points, as their struggles on the road continued.
The victory comes at a crucial time for Kotoko, who have faced heavy scrutiny following the departure of former coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. With Karim Zito’s winning start, there is renewed hope among the Kotoko faithful that the club can mount a strong finish to the season.
