GPL Matchday 5: 10-Man Aduana Stars Hold Hearts of Oak to a Goalless Draw
Aduana Stars showed incredible resilience as they managed to hold Hearts of Oak to a goalless draw, despite being reduced to ten men, in a tense Ghana Premier League clash at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The turning point came when Aduana’s Rich Sackey was sent off with 30 minutes left on the clock, leaving his side with a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the game.
Sackey received his marching orders after a late challenge, leaving Aduana under immense pressure from the Phobians.
Hearts of Oak, who were looking to build on their recent unbeaten run, struggled to capitalize on their advantage. Despite dominating possession and creating a couple of good chances in the dying minutes, they were unable to find the back of the net, thanks to Aduana’s disciplined defensive display.
The Dormaa-based club is still winless after five games this season. They have drawn three games and lost two, leaving them with only three points, a worrying start for a team that was expected to challenge for the top spots in the league.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak, after a poor start to the season with back-to-back defeats in their opening two games, are now three matches unbeaten. They have collected five points from a win and two draws in their last three games, but will be disappointed not to have taken all three points from this match.
Hearts had two golden opportunities to snatch a late winner, but poor finishing saw them waste both chances, leaving them with a sense of frustration as they continue to climb the league table slowly.
Aduana will be pleased with their defensive effort but will need to find solutions to their scoring woes, while Hearts of Oak will aim to sharpen their attacking play as the season progresses. Both teams have plenty of work ahead if they hope to climb higher in the Ghana Premier League standings.
