Heart of Lions Beat Hearts of Oak to Compound Phobians’ Struggles

Kpando-based Heart of Lions handed Accra Hearts of Oak a second consecutive defeat in the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League, with a 2-0 victory on Matchday 2 at the Kpando Stadium.

The Phobians, who were seeking redemption after their shock opening-day loss to Basake Holystars, saw their woes deepen after conceding two late goals.

Despite a spirited display for much of the game, Hearts of Oak failed to convert their chances, leaving them vulnerable as the Lions roared late in the match.

Nana Oppong broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute, latching onto a well-placed cross to slot home the opener. Just five minutes later, Ishmael Addo put the result beyond doubt, netting a second goal to seal the victory for Heart of Lions.

Hearts of Oak’s struggles in front of goal continue to be a major concern, as the club has now played two matches without finding the back of the net. After Matchday 2, they sit bottom of the league table with zero points, no goals scored, and a goal deficit of three.

The Phobians, a traditional powerhouse in Ghanaian football, are under increasing pressure to turn their season around quickly.

After a dismal start, the club’s supporters are calling for a response, and the team’s next fixture against Bechem United will be crucial in deciding whether they can recover from their early-season slump.

Heart of Lions, on the other hand, will be buoyed by their impressive win, which propels them up to second place on the league standings with four points.
