Hearts of Oak Close to Signing Mubarak Wakaso
Accra Hearts of Oak are reportedly finalizing a deal to sign former Ghana international midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.
The 34-year-old is set to join the Phobians on a short-term contract as the club aims to strengthen its squad for the second half of the Ghana Premier League season.
Wakaso, known for his combative midfield presence, tactical awareness, and excellent passing range, has been unattached since leaving Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC in January 2024.
Before his exit, he had a brief return to Shenzhen after a loan stint with Belgian club KAS Eupen, where he made 10 appearances in all competitions.
With an illustrious career spanning top European clubs such as Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic, and Deportivo Alavés, Wakaso’s experience is expected to bring leadership and quality to Hearts of Oak’s midfield.
Internationally, Wakaso is a household name in Ghanaian football, having earned 70 caps and scored 13 goals for the Black Stars since his debut in 2012. He has represented Ghana in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
If the deal is completed, Wakaso’s addition could significantly boost Hearts of Oak’s chances of challenging for the league title and securing a strong finish this season.
