Iñaki Williams scores 4th league goal in Bilbao’s win over Villarreal
Ghanaian forward Iñaki Williams continued his impressive form in La Liga, scoring his fourth league goal of the season as Athletic Club Bilbao secured a 2-0 victory over Villarreal at the San Mamés on Sunday.
The home side took the lead in the first half through defender Aitor Paredes. Villarreal thought they had equalized later in the match, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review confirmed an offside in the buildup.
Williams doubled the lead in the second half, capping off a brilliant team move to seal the win for Bilbao. His composed finish marked his fourth league goal of the campaign, underscoring his importance to the Basque side’s attacking play, as he has provided four assists in the league as well.
The victory propels Bilbao into La Liga’s top four, a significant boost in their bid for European qualification.
However, the team has played two more games than both fifth-place Villarreal and third-place Atlético Madrid, leaving room for potential movement in the standings.
