The Black Satellites have won gold for Team Ghana after beating Uganda in the final of the men’s football competition at the 2023 African Games.
Jerry Afriyie scored the only goal for Ghana to ensure victory and claim the gold medal at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, 22nd March.
Ghana largely controlled the game from the start and created decent chances but the Ugandan goalkeeper stood in their way.
The Satellites scored an early goal inside the first fifteen minutes but it ruled out for a foul on the Ugandan goalkeeper.
The Ugandans warmed themselves up into the game and looked threatening on the counterattacks but the Ghanaian defense found the antidote to the few chances they created.
The game was tied at the break.
In the second half, Ghana looked more threatening but indecisive final third passes were the stumbling block between them and the opener.
However, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 90th minute.
Jerry Afriyie pounced on a lose ball just around the penalty box and fired a low drive pass the Ugandan goalkeeper.
The fully packed Accra Sports Stadium erupted with jubilation while the Ugandans were gutted.
Ghana held on to defend their goal in added time as their counterparts pressed for the equalizer.
Uganda settled for the silver medal while Senegal won the bronze after beating Congo 2-0 in the bronze medal match.
