Black Stars captain, Jordan Ayew has expressed delight following the Black Stars’ 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the 2025 Unity Cup, describing the result as a much-needed morale boost after their earlier loss to Nigeria.
Speaking after the team’s final match of the tournament in London, the Leicester City striker praised the younger players who stepped up in the absence of several key figures, showcasing their ability to perform on the international stage.
We needed to bounce back stronger after the loss to Nigeria Ayew told ghanafa.org. We didn’t start well against them, but the second half was brilliant, we just didn’t take our chances.
Despite falling short of winning the Unity Cup, Ayew emphasized the many positives the team could take from both matches.
The lads played well, we created chances, scored four goals and kept a clean sheet, and that is great for us.
Ayew also acknowledged the support of the Ghanaian community in London, whose presence he said energized the team. Looking ahead to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September, he expressed confidence in the squad’s prospects.
With the quality we have and the spirit we’re building, I believe Ghana has a good chance of making it to the World Cup, he added.
As the Black Stars prepare for crucial qualifiers against Chad and Mali, Ayew’s leadership and the emergence of new talent offer a promising outlook for Ghana’s campaign.
