Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has opened up about the pressure of living up to his famous family name, while expressing deep gratitude to his parents for their unwavering support throughout his career.
In a candid interview, the Leicester City forward spoke about the challenges of following in the footsteps of his father, Ghanaian football legend Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’, one of Africa’s most celebrated footballers.
It’s not easy to come after your father in a sense of the expectations being so high back home and even in Europe, Ayew admitted. There’s a lot of pressure, but it’s something I’ve learned to embrace over the years.
Jordan, along with his brother André Ayew, has carried the family legacy on the international stage, both playing pivotal roles for the Ghana national team. Despite the weight of expectation, Jordan remains determined to forge his own path and contribute meaningfully to the Black Stars.
He also took a moment to credit his parents for the foundation they laid in his life, saying.
My Dad has done a lot, for not only me, but my whole family. He’s been a role model and a constant source of motivation.
With the next chapter of World Cup qualifiers ahead, Ayew remains optimistic and focused on delivering success for both his country and his family.
There’s still more to come from us, Hopefully, we can give them more moments to enjoy.
