Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has reiterated his unwavering commitment to winning a trophy with Ghana’s senior national team, despite the country’s prolonged title drought.

Ghana’s last major silverware came in 1982, and although the team has come close, reaching the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in 1992, 2010, and 2015, the ultimate prize has remained elusive.

Recent years have been particularly challenging, with the Black Stars suffering group-stage exits at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon and the 2023 edition in Ivory Coast. The struggles continued as the team failed to secure qualification for the upcoming 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Despite the setbacks, Ayew remains a symbol of resilience. The Leicester City forward has led by example, helping Ghana secure back-to-back wins over Chad and Madagascar in Matchdays 5 and 6 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking in a recent interview, Ayew emphasized his enduring belief in the team’s potential and his personal determination to bring glory to the nation.

I’ve been waiting for a national team trophy for many years, he said. I have to keep on working and pushing, and if it comes, it comes.

The recent victories have reignited hope, propelling the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 15 points. With momentum building, Ayew and his teammates are setting their sights on brighter days ahead.
