The Minister for Sports and recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has responded to calls for the disclosure of the national team’s budget, stating that while the budget will eventually be made available, its immediate release may not be beneficial to the team.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams assured the public that there was “nothing to hide” regarding the budget but emphasized that taking care of the national team was costly, especially since many of the players come from Europe.
The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public, but we must know it is expensive to take care of the national team because most of the players are coming from Europe. Adams stated.
However, he also expressed reservations about revealing the budget before the games, suggesting that doing so could create unnecessary distractions for the team.
People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what the budget would do for the team ahead of the games. Sometimes, some situations create distraction for the team, so we should weigh every situation before making a decision. He added.
