Mohammed Kudus has been demoted to the fourth captain of the Black Stars, moving down in the team’s leadership ranks.
The 24-year-old, who previously captained the Black Stars during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan and Niger under contentious circumstances, is now ranked fourth in the captaincy hierarchy.
Kudus’ promotion to captain ahead of the more experienced Jordan Ayew sparked significant controversy in Ghana. Despite his influential role on the field, Kudus now follows Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Alexander Djiku in the leadership structure.
While Partey has declined the captaincy, Kudus is reportedly uninterested in leading the team. He remains a key player for Ghana, with an important role expected in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
