Kwasi Appiah Steps Down as Ghana FA Executive Council Member Amid Conflict of Interest Concerns
Sudan head coach, James Kwasi Appiah, has temporarily stepped down from his role as a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council.
The decision follows a directive from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), citing a conflict of interest due to Appiah’s dual roles as Sudan coach and a GFA Executive Council member.
Both Ghana and Sudan are competing in the same group for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which prompted CAF to take action.
The football body had earlier sent a letter to Kwasi Appiah, requesting that he make a decision on his dual roles, given the potential conflict of interest.
Appiah responded swiftly, choosing to step aside from his responsibilities at the GFA to focus solely on his coaching duties with Sudan, however, he will take on his role again at the GFA when the ties between Ghana and Sudan have been concluded.
This decision comes as Appiah prepares to lead Sudan in a crucial doubleheader against the Black Stars of Ghana on October 11 and 14. The first match will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
Appiah’s temporary departure from the GFA allows him to concentrate fully on leading the Sudanese national team as they bid for a place in the 2025 AFCON.
