Manchester United have decided against activating their €20 million purchase option for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have since informed Fiorentina of this decision not to make the Moroccan’s loan deal permanent.
Despite making 30 appearances in all competitions last season, including a full 90 minutes in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, Amrabat’s performances haven’t convinced United to commit to the hefty fee for a sporadic squad player.
Manchester United is looking at other midfield alternatives after agreeing personal terms with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
However, there’s a twist in the tale. Romano suggests that United may not be entirely out of the picture for Amrabat.
The report indicates that the club remains interested in Amrabat and is open to discussing alternative transfer arrangements with Fiorentina.
Manager Erik ten Hag is said to be a fan of the midfielder’s abilities, leaving the door open for potential negotiations at a lower price point.
Other clubs are circling around Amrabat and could become a sought-after player in the current transfer window, with Manchester United potentially remaining in the race alongside other interested parties.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining where the talented Moroccan midfielder will be playing his football next season.
