Simmons Kewura, Deputy Director of Public Relations at the National Ambulance Service, has refuted claims that emergency responders delayed providing medical care to Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Angel FM Accra, Kewura clarified that Pooley received immediate medical attention at the scene of the violent clash between Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC. He dismissed allegations that ambulance personnel were reluctant to assist injured fans, stating that the crew was already attending to injured players and spectators on the field when they were alerted about Pooley’s stabbing.

“Our team was actively providing first aid when we received reports of a stabbing. They swiftly moved to the scene and administered emergency care to Pooley at the entrance of the stadium,” he explained.

Kewura emphasized that Pooley was alive when placed in the ambulance and was given oxygen and other emergency interventions while being transported to Nsoatreman Polyclinic.

“At the time we transported Nana Pooley, he was still alive. In fact, we provided oxygen and other emergency support to sustain him until we reached the clinic. He was handed over to medical staff alive. Later, around 7:00 PM, we received the heartbreaking news of his passing,” he stated.

He further assured that the National Ambulance Service remains committed to its nationwide sensitization campaign on emergency response techniques to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six individuals in connection with Pooley’s death as investigations continue.
