Otto Addo Announces Squad for 2025 AFCON Qualifiers Against Sudan
Ghana Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has officially released his squad for the crucial double-header in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.
The match, initially set for a Friday October 11, has been rescheduled by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and will now take place on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
The squad features a mix of seasoned campaigners and fresh faces, as the Black Stars aim to secure a spot in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
A notable inclusion in the squad is FC Samartex 1996’s left-back, Isaac Afful, who earns his first call-up to the senior national team, an indication of his impressive form in the Ghana Premier League.
Among the experienced names, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, and Mohammed Kudus lead the midfield and attack, bringing vital experience from Europe’s top leagues. Meanwhile, younger talents like Ernest Nuamah and Ibrahim Osman will be eager to prove themselves on the international stage.
In defense, the return of Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Salisu adds stability, while Premier League star Tariq Lamptey will be expected to play a crucial role on the flanks. Goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Joseph Wollacott, and Fredrick Asare will battle it out for the starting spot between the posts.
The Black Stars head into this qualifier with on the back of a defeat and a draw against Angola and Niger respectively, but aims to build on their strong footballing tradition and secure a spot in the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco.
Sudan, however, presents a challenging opposition, and Ghana will need to bring their A-game to maintain their qualification hopes.
