Head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo, is set for a crucial showdown with Nigeria as the Black Stars prepare to face the Super Eagles at the GTech Community Stadium in Brentford on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Otto Addo met the press on Monday to share insights ahead of the much-anticipated Unity Cup fixture.
This encounter marks Addo’s fourth meeting with Nigeria, a rivalry reignited during the FIFA World Cup playoff in March 2022, where he led Ghana to qualification. Despite that success, Addo is still searching for his first outright win against the Super Eagles, having suffered a 2-1 defeat in March last year.
At the press conference, Addo discussed several key topics including the return of forward Felix Afena Gyan, the long-standing football rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria, and the absence of some key players.
He also addressed the potential inclusion of players from the Ghana Premier League in the Unity Cup lineup.
Addo expressed gratitude to the Unity Cup organizers, emphasizing the importance of the event as more than just a football match.
We’re very, very happy to be here,” he said. I think first of all the culture meets competition, it’s a big festival, and it’s very, very nice to be here.
He noted that the match serves as a crucial opportunity to evaluate players and strategies ahead of future competitions, particularly the upcoming qualification games in September.
We are using this opportunity to do further tests, to test our players, to see our players on a very, very high level, he added. And for us, it’s surely a good, good test for the upcoming work of qualifying games.
