Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has weighed in on his side’s inability to find the net in their goalless draw against rivals Hearts of Oak, insisting that while coaches can teach players how to score, it ultimately comes down to individual ability on matchdays.

The much-hyped Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium ended in a stalemate, with both sides creating very few clear-cut opportunities in a cagey encounter. For Kotoko, the result means their winless away run in the Ghana Premier League has now stretched to eight consecutive games.

Speaking to the media after the match, Zito remarked,

Putting the ball in the net is the ability and capability of the player. We teach them how to score, but on the field, it depends on the player’s confidence and decision-making in front of goal.

The Kotoko coach expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance and tactical discipline, especially in such a high-pressure fixture, but acknowledged that the finishing touch was missing.

The draw leaves Asante Kotoko fourth on the table with 51 points, while Hearts of Oak remain sixth with 46 points. With just a handful of games left in the season, both teams are under pressure to finish strongly.
