SAFA President Danny Jordaan Allegedly Arrested on Fraud Charges Amid Scandal
South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan has been allegedly arrested and charged with fraud, as reported by News24.
The allegations claim Jordaan spent R1.3 million of SAFA’s funds for his personal benefit, marking a severe blow to the veteran administrator’s reputation just as he is seeking a fourth term as head of the federation.
Jordaan is set to appear before the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday, alongside co-accused SAFA Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hluyo and journalist-turned-businessman Trevor Neethling.
This court appearance follows an extensive investigation, including a raid by Hawks officers at SAFA’s offices in March, as law enforcement sought evidence against Jordaan.
The charges against Jordaan relate to alleged financial misconduct from 2014 to 2018, with claims that he used SAFA’s resources for personal security and public relations services—all without board approval.
The accusations of financial mismanagement and embezzlement have put Jordaan under intense scrutiny, especially given his high-profile role within South African football and his longstanding influence on the sport in the country.
The scandal casts a shadow over Jordaan’s campaign for re-election, as he fights to clear his name and retain his position at SAFA.
His leadership, once seen as stabilizing, now faces questions over the ethical standards within the organization, sparking concern among fans and officials alike.
As Jordaan and his co-accused prepare for court, the future of South Africa’s football administration hangs in the balance, as many may be eager to see justice served and integrity restored to the country’s football federation.
