Former Ghana and Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour has strongly criticized Jamie Carragher for his comments about the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Carragher, now a football pundit, reportedly downplayed the significance of AFCON, stating that it is “not a major tournament.” His remarks sparked backlash from African football figures, with Kuffour being one of the most vocal critics.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Kuffour questioned Carragher’s achievements as a player and dismissed his authority to speak on global football matters.
What has Jamie Carragher achieved? If he wasn’t born in Liverpool, he would not have had the chance to play for Liverpool. Ferdinand and Terry are the ones supposed to talk, not Carragher. Kuffour stated.
The Ghanaian legend, who played at the highest level with Bayern Munich and featured in multiple AFCON tournaments, went further, saying Carragher does not belong among the world’s elite defenders.
If we mention the best 2,000 defenders in the world, Jamie Carragher will not be part of them. He’s nothing. He just talks. He should be ashamed of himself. Kuffour added.
