Sports Minister Unhappy with Otto Addo’s Performance as Black Stars Coach

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi Fm, the Minister said he could not pretend to be impressed by the work of the coach, stressing that doing so would mean he did not understand his responsibilities.

If I tell you I am impressed with Otto Addo, then it means I don’t know my job. I am not,” he stated bluntly.

Hon. Adams highlighted Ghana’s recent struggles on the international stage, pointing out the nation’s failure to qualify for the African Cup of Nations under Otto Addo’s leadership. According to him, this development does not reflect well on Ghana’s football reputation.

He further lamented that the Black Stars’ recent performances have been unconvincing, often leaving fans uneasy and anxious throughout matches.

Our matches leave supporters sitting on tenterhooks, and the performances are simply not convincing,” the Minister added.

Despite Ghana’s narrow victory over Mali in their recent qualifier and their current lead at the top of Group I—three points ahead of Madagascar—the Minister insists that he remains dissatisfied with Addo’s overall work.

He stressed that while other African powerhouses such as Morocco and Tunisia have already secured their tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana’s situation remains open.

The Black Stars still need at least four points from their remaining two matches to mathematically confirm a place at next year’s Mundial in North America.

The Minister’s remarks add to the growing debate over Otto Addo’s tenure, with pressure mounting on the Black Stars’ coach to restore confidence in his abilities.
