Sunderland Eye Move for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as Leicester Reject Initial Bid

Newly-promoted Premier League side Sunderland have set their sights on Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, with reports suggesting that Leicester City have rejected an opening offer of £32 million (€37m) for the 20-year-old.

Issahaku, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Leicester City last two season, remains a key part of the Foxes’ plans.

However, sources indicate that an offer in the region of £45 million could convince the club to part ways with their highly-rated attacker.

The Black Cats have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market, already securing 11 new signings as they prepare for their first season back in the top flight after an eight-year absence.

Their 3-0 opening-day triumph over West Ham United was a statement of intent, but head coach Le Bris believes adding Issahaku would inject even more creativity and directness to a forward line that already features Ivorian star Simon Adingra.

Fatawu became a fan favourite at the Foxes after an impressive initial loan spell in the 2023/24 season from Portuguese club Sporting CP, where his goals and creativity helped the Foxes secure promotion back to the Premier League.

However, his progress was stalled by a serious ACL injury, which kept him sidelined for much of the 2024/25 season which saw Leicester City being relegated back to the Championship.

The Ghana international’s pace, dribbling ability, and eye for goal have made him one of the most exciting young players in England, and Sunderland are determined to test Leicester’s resolve before the transfer window closes.
