UEFA Champions League: Atletico Madrid Snatch Late Win Against PSG

Paris Saint-Germain’s winless run in the Champions League stretched to three games as they suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at home to Atletico Madrid, with Angel Correa’s last-gasp strike sealing victory for the Spanish side in added time.

The night began brightly for PSG, with 18-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery marking a historic 15th consecutive start in the competition by scoring the opening goal.

Zaire-Emery capitalized on a defensive error by Atletico’s Clement Lenglet, who lost possession to Ousmane Dembele. The French winger passed to Zaire-Emery, who calmly chipped Jan Oblak to give PSG a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

However, Atletico responded quickly, leveling the score just four minutes later. Nahuel Molina pounced on a loose ball after PSG failed to clear, blasting it past Gianluigi Donnarumma from close range to make it 1-1.

The second half saw PSG dominate possession, with Bradley Barcola and Achraf Hakimi forcing Oblak into impressive saves. Despite PSG’s control, Atletico remained resilient, with Diego Simeone’s side pushing for a winner in the final stages.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Atletico’s persistence paid off. Correa, coming off the bench, latched onto a loose ball and fired a low shot past Donnarumma, silencing the Parc des Princes and securing a crucial three points.

With this loss, PSG find themselves in 25th place in the Champions League’s 36-team league format, with four points from four games.

Atletico sit slightly higher, two spots above with six points. Looking ahead, PSG will face a tough away fixture against Bayern Munich on matchday five, while Atletico Madrid travel to Sparta Prague.
