A pulsating UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at the Allianz Arena saw Bayern Munich and Real Madrid share the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

The home side controlled proceedings right from the start but couldn’t find the break.

The visitors, however, struck first through Vinicius Junior in the 24th minute. Former Bayern player, Toni Kroos, threaded a through ball into the path of Vinicius who placed it beyond the outstretched leg of Manuel Neuer to give Madrid the lead.

The Los Blancos defended well, and led at the break.

But Bayern responded with a dominant spell after the recess. Leroy Sane equalized in the 53rd minute after his shot from just outside the box beat Andriy Lunin at his near post.

A well taken Harry Kane penalty just four minutes later put the Bavarians 2-1 ahead to turn the tie in their favour.

However, Real Madrid wouldn’t be denied. Vinicius Jr stepped up again, this time, equalizing from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute, after Rodrygo was tripped by Kim Min-Jae in the penalty box.

The tie remains wide open heading to the Santiago Bernabeu next week.

Bayern Munich will rue their missed opportunities in the second half, while Real Madrid will take heart from their late fightback.

Both teams possess world-class attacking threats, and fans can expect another enthralling encounter in the second leg as they battle for a place in the Champions League final.

With the away goal rule no longer in use, there’s all to play for next week in the second leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.
