Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo has underlined the significance of the 2025 Unity Cup, describing the tournament as a pivotal opportunity to evaluate his squad ahead of the next phase of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s official website ahead of the competition’s kickoff in England on Tuesday, Addo emphasized the value of the tournament in reuniting the team and integrating new faces.

The Unity Cup comes at a crucial time for us, and we want to make the most of it,” Addo stated.

We’re excited to welcome back players who have been absent for months due to various reasons, as well as integrate new players into the team.

Ghana will begin their campaign with a high-stakes clash against long-time rivals Nigeria on Wednesday, May 28. The match promises to be a fiery encounter, with both sides eager to claim bragging rights and progress to the final.

The winner of the Ghana-Nigeria showdown will face either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago, who compete in the other semi-final fixture, in the Unity Cup final scheduled for Saturday, May 31.

With World Cup qualification looming, Coach Addo is expected to use the tournament to experiment with line-ups and build momentum as Ghana eyes a return to the world stage in 2026.
