Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has firmly opposed any attempt to extend the tenure of GFA President, kurt Okraku, beyond the existing two-term limit.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Afriyie emphasized that the GFA statutes allow only two terms for a sitting president, unlike Zambia, where the FA president can serve up to three terms.

We’ll make sure that he doesn’t contest again. We’ll make sure there’s no third term. There was a reason why we opted for the second term in our statutes,  Afriyie stated.

He acknowledged that while Congress has the power to amend the statutes, any changes made would only apply to future presidents and not the incumbent.

Congress can change it. But when you change it, the FA president who changed it cannot benefit. The subsequent person who will become the next GFA President will benefit. That’s the law, he explained.

Kurt Okraku’s mandate as the leader of the Ghana FA will expire in 2027.
