The Ghana national Badminton team is brimming with confidence as the 2025 Africa AirBadminton Championship kicks off today at the Laboma Beach Resort in Accra.
Speaking to The BAC Sports, team members revealed that their preparations over the past two weeks have been intense and rewarding, with every player showing great improvement.
“We started camping two weeks ago and it’s been interesting. Everyone on the team has improved massively,” they shared. “This is a relatively new sport in Africa, introduced just last year and Ghana has already made history by winning the maiden edition in Senegal.
The team says they are determined to repeat that feat, especially with the added motivation of playing in front of their home fans.
Once we have won it before, we believe we can win it again. This time, we have the home support behind us, and that gives us an extra push.
Beyond winning, the team sees this championship as a stepping stone to growing the sport across the country.
We want to go far in this tournament so that badminton in Ghana can develop even more. Our success can inspire more people, especially the youth, to take interest in the sport.
The championship, which runs from July 3 to 6, also serves as a qualifier for the AirBadminton World Cup to be held in Dubai later this year.
