Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, has clarified the sudden change of referee ahead of the highly anticipated MTN FA Cup final between Asante Kotoko and Golden Kick.
According to Mr. Arthur, the originally appointed referee, Selorm Yao Bless, was replaced by Latif Adaari due to a muscle pull injury he sustained during the warm-up session before kick-off.
We changed the referee for the MTN FA Cup final because the referee said he had a muscle pull. He realised that during the warm-up. That’s why we always have four referees, so that others can step in when such situations happen. Arthur explained in an interview with Sporty FM.
The final match, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, saw Asante Kotoko emerge victorious with a 2-1 win over Golden Kick, securing their 11th MTN FA Cup title.
The decision to have a standby officiating crew proved crucial in ensuring the game proceeded smoothly without delays or officiating concerns.
