The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title race is set for a nail-biting finish as Asante Kotoko secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, June 1. The win was powered by a sensational hattrick from Albert Amoah, who has now emerged as a serious contender in the Golden Boot race.

The visitors, Medeama SC, stunned the home crowd early when Kingsley Braye opened the scoring in the 5th minute. But Kotoko responded with purpose and intensity. Albert Amoah calmly converted a penalty in the 23rd minute to level the scores, then gave Kotoko the lead with a fine finish in the 41st minute to make it 2-1 before the break.

Medeama found a way back into the match in the 66th minute through Manuel Mantey, who slotted home to equalize at 2-2. However, Amoah completed his hattrick in the 79th minute with a clinical goal that proved to be the winner, sealing a vital three points for the Porcupine Warriors.

The victory pushes Asante Kotoko to 58 points, just two points behind joint-leaders Nations FC and Bibiani Gold Stars, who each have 60 points. Crucially, Nations FC have a game in hand, keeping them slightly ahead in the title race with one round of fixtures remaining.

Amoah’s hattrick brings his season goal tally to 12, placing him just three goals behind the league’s current top scorer, Stephen Amankona, who has 15. With one match left, the Golden Boot race is still very much alive.
