Henry Asante Twum Defends Proposal to Extend GFA Presidential Term
The Communications Director at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has weighed in on the ongoing debate over the proposal to extend the GFA presidential term limit from two to three terms.
Speaking on the matter, Asante Twum stressed that the proposal is not centered on the current president, Kurt Okraku, but rather on creating parity in the rules governing the leadership of Ghana football.
“Extending the GFA presidential term is not about Kurt Okraku,” he said. “If it’s possible for Executive Council members to run for three terms, it should be possible for whoever is the GFA president.”
The proposal is one of the key topics at the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress today, August 12, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Delegates will vote on constitutional reforms that could reshape the governance structure of the association.
The suggested change has already sparked heated debate within the football community, with some stakeholders supporting it as a move for consistency, while others warn it could hinder leadership renewal.
