Former Black Stars player, Abdul Majeed Waris, has thrown his weight behind Lamashegu, his home community, as they prepare for the upcoming All Star Festival community football gala in Tamale.

Waris’s support comes after the official draw placed Lamashegu in Group A of the competition along side Changli, Sabonjida, and Sagnerigu.

His comment is sure to be met with enthusiasm by the Lamashegu community, who are hopeful of a strong showing in the gala.

Abdul Majeed waris now plays for Anorthosis Famagusta in the Cypriot First Division.

The community gala which begins on 4th May, consists of 16 communities from Tamale and have been put into four groups of four with the top two teams in each group progressing to the quarter finals and to the semis for communities that win their quarter final games.

The final game of the gala will serve as a curtain raiser for the main All Star Festival game between the international players and the local select side which will be played at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

The community football gala is a new initiative that has been added to the All Star Festival. It is a highly anticipated community event that aim to unearth young talent and also to fosters unity amongst residents and the various participating communities.
