Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko SC have confirmed their highly anticipated return to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The comeback follows extensive renovations that had kept the stadium closed, primarily for international football matches.

This milestone is a significant boost for the Porcupine Warriors as they compete in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. During the closure, the team had been using Obuasi’s Len Clay Stadium as their temporary home venue.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had previously declared Baba Yara Stadium unsuitable for international matches due to the poor quality of the pitch. In response, major refurbishments were undertaken to meet international standards, though the period of closure brought additional financial burdens on Kotoko, who had to host matches in Obuasi.

However, a new agreement between Asante Kotoko’s management and the National Sports Authority (NSA) has paved the way for the team to return to their home ground. This move is expected to reduce the costs of operating from a temporary venue and offer the team a sense of stability and familiarity.

Asante Kotoko will mark their return to the refurbished Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in an MTN FA Cup round of 64 clash against Future Stars, a lower-tier team.
