The Asante Kotoko fraternity, including management, players, and hundreds of fans, gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for a solemn vigil in honour of the late Nana Yaw Frimpong, affectionately known as Pooley, a dedicated supporter of the club.
Nana Pooley tragically lost his life in a stabbing incident at the Nana Kronmansah II Stadium in Nsoatre during a Ghana Premier League (GPL) match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.
The vigil, held exactly a week after his passing, saw an outpouring of support from not only Kotoko fans but also some supporters of arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, who joined in paying tribute and calling for justice for the bereaved family.
Kotoko’s management and playing squad, led by head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, were present to honour the memory of their devoted fan. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has since condemned the tragic incident and assured full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Asante Kotoko has suspended all football-related activities until justice is served.
