Ghanaian and Le Havre star Andre Ayew has opened up about handling online abuse, reflecting on his extensive career despite facing unfair criticism on social media.
The 35-year-old forward scored his fourth goal of the season, playing a pivotal role in Le Havre’s thrilling 4-3 victory over RC Lens on Saturday, where he also provided an assist. This win propelled Le Havre to 16th place in the league standings.
“It’s all about focusing on your job and what you need to do,” Ayew told the BBC. “Every situation has its pros and cons, so it’s important to understand the source of the criticism—it can be enlightening.”
He emphasized the connection players have with their fans, especially in a football-loving country like Ghana. “We play for the people, particularly in our country and continent where the passion for the game runs deep. But today, if someone feels frustrated, they can easily vent their feelings online. That’s where we need to be resilient and not let it affect us,” he explained.
“You want to bring joy to the fans, but when faced with baseless comments, it’s best to disregard them. With my experience, I believe it’s crucial to stay focused and pay attention to feedback from coaches, analysts, and staff—that’s where you find valuable insights.”
