FC Samartex put up a spirited performance to hold league leaders Asante Kotoko to a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought Ghana Premier League encounter at Nsenykyire Sports Arena.

The hosts took the lead in the 39th minute when Derrick Awuah found the back of the net, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.

However, the Porcupine Warriors responded swiftly after halftime, with Kwame Opoku equalizing in the 47th minute to secure a point for Asante Kotoko.

The draw keeps Kotoko at the top of the league standings with 38 points from 21 matches, maintaining a slim advantage over second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, who have 37 points but a game in hand. Hearts of Oak remain in the title race with 36 points, while Heart of Lions sit fourth with 34 points.

Samartex, on the other hand, moved up one place to 9th in the table with 28 points, level with Berekum Chelsea but ahead on goal difference.
