Barcelona Fight back to Secure Record Extending Super Cup Title in Epic Clasico in Saudi

Barcelona staged a sensational comeback to defeat arch-rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia, marking the first trophy of Hansi Flick’s tenure as manager.

The thrilling clash at Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City saw the Catalan giants deliver a dominant display, overcoming an early setback to clinch their record-extending 15th Super Cup title.

Real Madrid struck first, with Kylian Mbappé showcasing his brilliance in the fifth minute. Breaking away after Vinícius Jr. regained possession, the French forward surged past Barcelona’s defense and clipped the ball past Wojciech Szczęsny.

Despite Madrid’s promising start, Barcelona roared back into the game with a sensational equalizer from 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who slotted a low finish into the net, reminiscent of Lionel Messi in his prime.

Barcelona seized control soon after, with Robert Lewandowski converting a penalty following Eduardo Camavinga’s reckless foul on Gavi. The Catalans extended their lead through Raphinha, who headed home from Jules Koundé’s deep cross. Alejandro Balde made it 4-1 before halftime after a slick move involving Yamal and Raphinha.

Raphinha added his second and Barcelona’s fifth early in the second half, weaving through the defense to finish brilliantly. However, Barcelona faced adversity when Szczęsny was sent off for a foul on Mbappé outside the box, leaving the Catalans to play the final stages with 10 men.

Rodrygo Goes capitalized on the opportunity with a stunning free-kick, but despite intense pressure from Real Madrid, Barcelona’s defense, led by Koundé, held firm. Substitute goalkeeper Iñaki Peña made crucial saves, denying Mbappé and Jude Bellingham in the closing moments.

The victory highlighted Barcelona’s attacking prowess and resilience, with standout performances from young star Yamal and the rejuvenated Raphinha. Flick’s tactical acumen was evident as Barcelona dismantled Madrid’s defense despite the numerical disadvantage.

Speaking after the match, Jules Koundé reflected on the team’s determination: “We knew we had to stick to our plan, especially after the red card. It’s always special to win against Real Madrid, and this trophy means a lot to us.”

The win not only secured silverware for Barcelona but also sent a statement to their rivals and fans as they aim to build a new era of dominance under Flick.
