FC Samartex General Manager Edmund Ackah has placed the blame for football hooliganism squarely on the shoulders of football administrators and club owners.
Speaking on Asempa FM following the tragic stabbing of supporter Francis Frimpong, known as “Pooley,” in Nsoatre, Ackah stressed that the violence plaguing Ghanaian football is a result of internal mismanagement.
The problems do not arise from elsewhere; they come from us, the administrators and club owners. Ackah stated.
He called on club administrators to work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to enforce a strict code of conduct for supporters, emphasizing that collaboration is essential for the betterment of the game.
The fatal incident has led to a month-long suspension of the league, which is set to resume on Friday, March 7, 2025. In response to the tragedy, the GFA condemned the violence, banned Nsoatreman FC’s home venue, and launched an investigation into the incident.
Additionally, the GFA’s Executive Council has approved enhanced matchday safety protocols, including the formation of a Sports Police Unit and the introduction of sports security training in the police academy curriculum, in an effort to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
