crossorigin="anonymous"> GFA President Confirms Referee Payment Delays, Blames StarTimes for Non-Payment -

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has publicly acknowledged that the GFA owes referees officiating in Ghana’s domestic leagues and has assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to resolve the issue.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Mr. Okraku explained that the delayed payments to referees are largely due to the non-fulfillment of financial obligations by the broadcasting partner, StarTimes.

We have had challenges with the payment of our referees because of non-payment by StarTimes, he disclosed.

He further emphasized that the GFA is “working around the clock” to ensure that referees are paid what they are owed, reflecting the Association’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the local game despite financial headwinds.

Addressing media reports that referees were boycotting matches over unpaid fees, the GFA President dismissed those claims as “false,” asserting that any such individuals were not officially recognized by the Association.

Those pulling out are not registered with the GFA, he clarified.

The statements come amid growing concerns from football fans and stakeholders about the management of domestic football and the wellbeing of match officials.

The GFA now faces increased pressure to resolve the situation quickly to maintain the credibility of the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions.
