Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has confirmed that Andre Ayew is currently lower in the national team’s selection hierarchy, signaling a shift in the veteran forward’s role within the squad.
The 35-year-old, a long-time key figure for Ghana, has not received a national team call-up since March 2024. Despite his strong club form, scoring four goals in 11 starts for French Ligue 1 side Le Havre this season, Ayew remains further down the pecking order for international duty.
If we need Andre Ayew, we will call him. At the moment, I see others ahead of him, Otto Addo stated in an interview with Joy Sports.
In Ayew’s absence, his younger brother, Jordan Ayew, has assumed the role of Black Stars captain. Under his leadership, Ghana secured vital victories over Chad and Madagascar in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
These consecutive wins have propelled the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 15 points, with four matches left in their qualification campaign.
