The Chief Executive Officer of The Business African Consulting Group (The BAC Group), Dr. Ernest Koranteng, has raised concerns over the state of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, questioning why a facility that reportedly cost about $34 million cannot host Ghana Premier League matches.

Dr. Koranteng expressed his frustration speaking to The BAC Sports Channel, describing the situation as “scandalous” and calling for accountability from those involved in the construction and management of the facility.

It is scandalous to spend about 40 million dollars on a facility like the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, and it does not fit to host a Ghana Premier League match. We should get into this issue, ask the people involved in the construction of the facility, and resolve the matter. He said.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium, which was initially built to serve as a multipurpose facility for sporting activities, has faced criticism over its readiness and suitability for hosting top-tier football matches. Despite the heavy investment, the stadium is yet to be approved as a venue for Ghana Premier League games due to concerns over its infrastructure and facilities.

The university of Ghana sports stadium hosted various sporting activities during the All-African games last year but it’s very unfortunate the venue cannot host a premier league match a year after.

Before the league was suspended, the venue served as the home ground for Accra Hearts of Oak, Legon Cities, and Accra Lions. As a result, these clubs will now play at different venues.
