Asante Kotoko triumphed 3-2 on penalties over South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs to win the Toyota Cup after a tightly contested goalless draw in regulation time.
Head coach Karim Zito lauded his team’s tactical discipline and praised their commitment to the game plan. The victory adds to his growing list of achievements since taking over, having already secured the President’s Cup and FA Cup.
Zito highlighted the team’s progress despite being in a transitional phase with several new signings.
“We’re still building, but the players executed the instructions perfectly. I’m pleased with both the result and their tactical awareness,” he said.
After leading the Porcupine Warriors to a third-place finish in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, Zito remains confident about the future.
Kotoko now return to Ghana to continue preparations for the upcoming season, buoyed by this morale-boosting win.
