The late Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley, will be buried on March 6, according to Asante Kotoko Circles Chairman Alex Manu.
This follows a one-week observation held in his honor at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Pooley’s tragic death shocked the football community after he was fatally stabbed during Kotoko’s Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC. The incident led to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League, along with Kotoko’s MTN FA Cup round of 16 fixture against Sekondi XI Wise.
“We told GFA President Kurt Okraku that until our supporter is buried, we cannot resume the league,” Manu stated, citing Akan traditions that discourage active participation in events until funeral arrangements are finalized.
He emphasized that Kotoko supporters would not be in the right frame of mind to back the team until Pooley’s burial is completed.
GFA President Kurt Okraku recently met with Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee to discuss the situation.
