Asante Kotoko SC has officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the club announced in a statement released via its official website on Monday afternoon.
The announcement confirms earlier reports that the former WAFA and Kotoko title-winning coach had tendered his resignation following a string of disappointing results in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season. The decision, according to the club, was reached after
constructive discussions between both parties” with a mutual agreement that stepping down was in the “best interest of the club at this time.
This marks the end of Dr. Ogum’s second spell with the Porcupine Warriors. He was reappointed in 2023 after previously guiding the club to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title.
However, his return has been far from smooth sailing. Kotoko have struggled with inconsistency this season, culminating in a 2-0 loss to Nations FC over the weekend, their fourth straight game without a win.
In the aftermath of that match, Dr. Ogum admitted his frustration, stating:
We keep working, we keep playing the games, signaling his determination despite mounting pressure. Earlier last week, he had called for “over-commitment and determination” from his players to turn the season around.
The club currently sits 4th on the table with 47 points after 28 games – still mathematically in contention, but trailing leaders Samartex and Nations FC.
The official statement thanked Dr. Ogum for his service and called for calm among supporters, assuring them that further updates regarding the team’s direction will be communicated in due course.
