Business mogul and owner of Elmina Sharks, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has expressed deep frustration over the state of Ghanaian football, revealing that he is considering pulling out of the sport due to recurring issues of poor officiating, inadequate security, and lack of proper financial support for referees and clubs.
Following the chaotic Division One League match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks on February 16, which ended in violence, Nduom voiced his concerns about the challenges of running a football club in Ghana. The game, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the All Blacks at the Nduom Sports Complex, saw some Sharks players and officials attack referee Morrison over a controversial penalty decision.
Speaking on GTV Sports+, Nduom did not hide his disappointment with the state of Ghanaian football administration, calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take decisive action to improve security and fairness in the game.
The GFA must make everyone safe. They must pay the referees well, not just take FIFA money and go rest somewhere, he said.
He further revealed that he is considering whether continuing to invest in football is worth the trouble.
I am considering whether to even continue having the team. I don’t do it for money or anything else. We do it for opportunities, he stated.
Meanwhile, the Police are investigating the attack on referee Morrison during Elmina Sharks vs. All Blacks game in the latest incident of hooliganism.
