Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has expressed his deep concern following a violent incident during the Ghana Premier League (GPL) clash between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC last Sunday.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sporty FM, the minister described the situation as “quite unfortunate” and stressed the need for systemic reforms within Ghanaian football, beginning with the education of sports administrators.
It’s quite unfortunate that we continue to have such situations,” Hon. Adams remarked. “Before we even start pointing fingers at match officials or the supporters, we need to acknowledge that some of our sports administrators lack a full understanding of how modern football is run.
The clash between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC was marred by acts of violence that disrupted the game and left several fans and officials shaken.
While full details of the incident are yet to be officially released, initial reports suggest that tensions flared following a controversial decision by the match officials, sparking chaos both on and off the pitch.
Minister Adams noted that incidents like this tarnish the image of the GPL and pose a threat to the development of football in the country.
