Thomas Partey Joins Villarreal on Free Transfer After Arsenal Exit
Villarreal CF have secured the services of Thomas Partey on a free transfer following the end of his contract with Arsenal in June.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal, structured as an initial one-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months. The move follows successful medicals and is expected to be formally announced soon.
Partey leaves the Premier League side after a five-year spell, during which he made 167 appearances and played a key role in Mikel Arteta’s midfield setup. He also occasionally featured at right-back.
Before joining Arsenal in 2020 for €50 million from Atletico Madrid, Partey made 188 appearances for the Spanish giants and brings extensive La Liga experience to his new club.
His decision to join Villarreal was influenced by their Champions League qualification, seen as a vital factor in choosing his next destination.
Partey is currently facing legal proceedings in the UK related to charges of rape and sexual assault. He denies all allegations and was recently granted conditional bail, with international travel requiring prior police notification.
