Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, wrapped up their group stage campaign at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations with a dramatic 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic.

Substitute Joseph Opoku, who plies his trade in Belgium, scored the decisive goal in the 82nd minute after latching onto a long pass from Ishmael Addo and calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. The goal marked Ghana’s second win of the tournament.

Heading into the match, Ghana had drawn with DR Congo and edged Senegal 1-0, aiming to preserve their unbeaten run. Meanwhile, the Central African Republic had picked up a point against Senegal before falling to DR Congo.

Ghana dominated much of the match and created numerous chances, with Abdul Aziz Issah of Barcelona B coming close several times, but the teams went into halftime goalless.

Despite sustained pressure in the second half, the breakthrough came late. Opoku’s composed finish gave Desmond Ofei’s men the lead, which they defended successfully to claim all three points and top Group C with seven points.

The Black Satellites now advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face one of the third-placed teams from Group A or B.
